Young Gully (GULLY), NSW Details

History

The name was proposed by Mr M Hobday of the Mangrove Mountain Districts Community Group. Supported by Darkinjung Aboriginal Council Gosford Council Forests and NP&WS.

Description

A gully 0.7 km in length which starts at a point 5.1 km NW of Moat Trigonometrical Station and 0.9 km SW of the Ironbark Road bridge over Ironbark Creek. The gully flows in a westerly direction into Ironbark Creek.

Origin

Harry Young was the first person to clear and farm the land next to this gully - somewhere about the 1940s. He came from the Young family one of the pioneering families in the district. He was a carpenter and very community minded. Mr Young built the Mangrove Mountain Public Hall. He is now deceased.
