Reids Mistake Head (POINT), NSW Details
History
Until about 1826 the name Reids Mistake was commonlty applied to the inlet and the lake.(K H Cloutenibidp 11)
Description
The southern headland of the entrance to Lake Entrance and Lake Macquarie from the Tasman Sea. It is situated at Swansea about 22 km south south west of Newcastle.
Origin
Named after Captain William Reid (variation Reed) master of the 30 ton schooner the Martha. He entered the heads in 1800 thinking that it was the entrance to the Hunter River. ( Keith H CloutenReids Mistake Lake Macquarie Shire Council 1967 p 9)
