A neighbourhood about 2 km ESE of Paddington and about 3 km NNE of Randwick. Boundaries within Mun. of Woollahra shown on map marked GNB 3720. Boundaries within Mun. of Waverley shown on map marked GNB 3710. Boundaries amended by the boundaries of Queens Park. See GNB3640
Origin
The first trams began to run from Darlinghurst in 1881 and the following year a crossing loop was built near the Tea Gardens Hotel Bondi giving the area its name. The suburb had begun to develop when the hotels licence was granted in 1854. (Sydney Suburbs K Anderson 1989).
