History

The Worimi tribe inhabited the Port Stephens region and consisted of the Baraigal Gampingal Gareugal Grewerigal and Maaiangal clans They shared a common language Kattang and cultural and social traditions.

Description

A point on the western shore of Soldiers Point peninsular 500 metres S of Greenplay Point and 1.2 km N of Diemar Point in the suburb of Soldiers Point.

Meaning

Yachett - from the Kattang language of The Worimi tribe. Source: Carol Ridgeway Bissett a descendant of the Maaiangal clan Carol is a researcher of the Kattang language. There seems to be no knowledge of the meaning of Yachett.

Origin

The name was recorded in 1826 by Australian Agricultural Co. when it first took up its holding on the north shore of Port Stephens on a map drawn by Thomas Ebsworth a clerk of the AA Co. Original held in the Mitchell Library Sydney.
