History
First land grant in the Avalon area was of 60 acres given to John Farrell in 1827. (Book of Sydney Suburbs 1988)
Description
A suburb on the Barrenjoey Peninsula facing the Pacific Ocean about 2km N by E of Newport Beach (neighbourhood) and about 1 km SE of Clareville (neighbourhood). This area transferred from Warringah LGA to Pittwater LGA on 16-MAR-92 Boundaries determined 19 Apr 1984 as per GNB2550/D
Origin
Said to have been coined by an estate agent in the early 1920s. The name is from Avalon in Somerset England. Accoding to Celtic mythology Avalon was the final home of the heroes of Chivalry.
