how to embed google fonts icons

For some reason when i go to embed a google font icon, they dont seems to have any obvious way to actually use it, i can find the icons ok here. But then when i go and use it it links to a how to embed page, which just tells me how to embed a google font not the actual icon. Seems strange...

So i go here for the icons. And i find the icon i want to use.

Ok so i click on the "instructions" link which brings me here. Which just tells me i can embed google fonts. Great, so i have to google "how to embed google fonts icons".

So how do i actually embed the google icons?

(i almost gave up and went back to font awesome, but ill keep trying...)

Why do they not just add this to the icons page, maybe its there and i just cant see it.

Include this in your header.

<link rel="stylesheet" href="https://fonts.googleapis.com/icon?family=Material+Icons">

Then you can copy the embed code from the fonts site.

(why dont they just say that! /rant) (i know they are free i should not be complaining)

HTML

<span class="material-icons-outlined">
favorite
</span>

Nope, still not working. CMon, is it that hard?

So basically you cant use the embed code provided, as it just displays the word favourite, or the selected icon name. Rather you have to use the font awesome embed way, and use a i tag with the class material-icons on it and then you can add the word of the icon.

Have fun with Material Icons, now that you know how to actually access them!

HTML

<!-- the embed code they provide does not work -->
<span class="material-icons-outlined">
favorite
</span>

<!-- you have to add it a similar way to font awesome icons -->
<i class="material-icons">favorite</i>
<i class="material-icons" style="font-size:48px;">favorite</i>
<i class="material-icons" style="font-size:60px;color:red;">favorite</i>

Scripts

<link rel="stylesheet" href="https://fonts.googleapis.com/icon?family=Material+Icons">
favorite favorite favorite favorite

In this case my anchor this week becomes driving almost 2hrs outside of Atlanta to one of my favorite hard core gyms in the world.. MetroFlex aka The Dungeon. The gym owners turn the heat way up so it becomes a fun sweat box and the gym members just watch from afar and leave me alone. I happily drive myself long distances to find MY ANCHOR. Our anchor allows us to have balance, focus and be as productive as possible. And if you're in the middle of a heavy set and your headphones start to fall off your head, like mine did here.. well.. f*ck the headphones. Let em break and fall. You can always get a new pair, but the iron ain't ever gonna lift itself.
