Origin
Aboriginal. Derived from Aboriginal word for boomerang bargan. The name refers to the shape of escarpment along the McPherson Ranges where the cliffs swing out and in again like a bommerang at a height of more than 700 metres above sea level. (Richmond Tweed Regional Library. 1984).
