History
Was Cudgen Wharf and Cudgerabah. Original area extended along north bank of Tweed River from Barneys Point to Ukerebagh Passage east of Pacific Hwy (most of Sth Tweed Heads area). (Reference as above).

A village on the Pacific Highway about 9 km S of Tweed Heads. Also assigned as an address locality.
Meaning
Also: Poss. from Gidhabal jingar for vagina. Also: from Tinggera for vagina and womb. (M.Sharpe).
Origin
Aboriginal. Chinderah Bay is Kurara for a long narrow stretch of water. Aboriginal name for Chinderah Island is Pyjibin Island and it lies in Boyds Channel. Aboriginal Chindrah for Red Tamarind tree and its fruit is an Aboriginal food. (Richmond Tweed Regional Library. 1984).
