History
The earliest recorded exploration of this area is that of Oxley and his party in August 1818.
Description
Rises on the northern slopes of Liverpool Range and receives its identity at the junction of Omaleah and Phillips Creeks about 37km South of West from Quirindi. It flows generally West of North by the townships of Pine Ridge Caroona and Breeza to its confluence with the Namoi River about 2km East of Gunnedah.
Meaning
See Science of Man Vol. 13 page 189 the word was in use Kamilari (sic) Dialect County of Buckland
Origin
It is apparent that Mooki was the name given to the river by Aboriginal tribes roaming the lower reaches.
