Takes its name from the adjacent street. Maria Street was sub-divided c.1880 from Lots 68 and 60 of the Redmire Estate and is believed to be the wife of the lot owner and sub-divider Edward Sanders. (Parks and Reserves of the Strathfield Municipality Cathy Jones2002)
