Description
A village on the eastern bank of the Hunter River 11 km north of Muswellbrook through which runs the New England Highway and the main Northern Railway Line.
Origin
Named in 1838 after George Gordon 4th Earl of Aberdeen K.G. distinguished statesman and scholar. Name suggested by Thomas Potter Macqueen and Segenhoe former British M.P. friend of the Earl.(Infor. from Scone and Upper Hunter Historical Society) RAHS Newsletter August 1972. p7.
