Trial Bay (BAY), NSW Details
Description
A north facing bay in the Tasman Sea at South West Rocks. It extends westwards from Laggers Point to the mouth of the Macleay River.
Origin
The bay obtains its name from the brig Trial which was seized by convicts in Port Jackson on 12-Sep-1816 and subsequently abandoned in the bay. It was found by the armed brig Lady Nelson. No trace was found of the convicts or their hostages. Shipwreck Atlas of NSW 2nd Ed 1995 Dept of Urban Affairs and Planning.
