History
As parlimentary Under-Secretary in the Coloniel Department in London from 1821 Horton had exercised a powerful influence in the events which led to the pastoral development of northern NSW in the 1820s.
Description
A perennial stream rising on the northern slopes of the Nandewar Range to the east of Mount Kaputar. It flows east south east for about 17.5 km E of N for about 27 km where it is joined by Cobbadah Creek. west of North for about 15 km where it is joined by Rocky Creek then generally north for about a further 32 km where it joins the Gwydir River about 19 km north-west of Bingara.
Origin
Named by the explorer Allan Cunningham on July 7 1827 in honour of Robert Wilmot Horton politician public servant and pamphleteer and Fellow of the Royal Society. (Atchison 1976).
