A suburb about 3 km NNE of Strathfield and about 4 km S of Ryde. Boundaries within Canada Bay City Council area shown on map GNB3555.

Along with the other place names of Chiswick Henley Putney Woolwich and Greenwich this name appears to come from a place on the River Thames England. Known once as Bottle Point this locality appears to have obtained its present name from the River Thames. Maritime Services BoardPort of Sydney Vol9 No3 Sept 1965.
