History
Suggested by Mrs Judith Dunn President of the Parramatta and District Historical Society.
Description
A reserve located at the southern end of Oakes Road and bounded on the west and south by Toongabbie Creek. It occupies Lot 18 of DP 230547 and lots 2-3 of DP 551352.
Origin
Named after George Oakes (......1813 - 10.10.1881) President of the Parramatta Hospital Board and a pioneer member of the NSW Government of 1856. In 1874 he was elected as Member of the Legislative Assembly for East Sydney. He died tragically - the first fatal victim of the Sydney trams. (Sargeant D A `The Toongabbie Story` 1964)
