History

Bronte in NSW took its name from the estate of Robert Lowe later Earl of Sherbrooke who had named it from the Sicilian town.

A coastal suburb of Sydney located about 1500 metres SSW of Bondi Beach and 2 km NE of Randwick. Boundaries shown on map marked GNB 3710

Origin

Name used by Mr J.J. Falconer - a home owner. P. 158. (Information from The Centenary of the Municipality of Waverley 1859-1959) Named after a town in Sicily. Lord Nelson was created Duke of Bronte in 1799 by King Ferdinand IV of Naples. (Reed 1969).
