Paul Keating Park (RESERVE), NSW Details

Description

A reserve on the northern side of The Mall at Bankstown. It occupies Lot 6 of DP 777510. This is the site of the former Administration Building within the Civic Centre which was destroyed by fire on 1 July 1997. Council elected not to reinstate the building but rather to create a central park within the central business district of Bankstown.

Paul John Keating (18 January 1944 - ..........) was for 27 years the Seat of Blaxlands representative in Federal Parliament. The reserve is located within this seat. He was the first person from the area to achieve the position of Treasurer (1983 - 1991) and Prime Minister of Australia (1991-96). (Bankstown Council proposal 29 April 1999)
