Yerin Creek (CREEK), NSW Details
History
Name submitted by D Martin through the Mangrove Mountain Districts Community Group. Supported by Darkinjung Aboriginal Council Gosford Council forests and NP&WS.
Description
A creek which begins at a point 1.7 km NE of Basalt Hill and 2.3 km SW of Kooree Trigonometrical Station. It is 3.0 km in length and flows in a generally westerly direction to its confluence with the waters impounded by Mangrove Creek Dam.
Origin
Named after a local Darkinjung member who lived at Long Jetty. `Yerin` was the mans given name. He worked for Forestry and was killed whilst working sometime about the 1940s. This is the name that the Europeans used. His Aboriginal name was Kumbu. From oral history of the Darkinjung people as submitted by D Martin.
