History

A town about 39 km NNW of Callubri Trig. Station and about 10 km N of Darouble Dam.
Meaning
For: mussel or crayfish. (History of Nyngan. Nyngan Observer. p.17 & 21). Also: mussel; crayfish; place of many streams. (McCarthy. 1963). Mitchell recorded the name NYINGAN as meaning long pond of water. (Cambridge Dictionary of Australian Places).
