History
Young stands on what was formerly Wiradhuri Aboriginal land. A town was established there after the discovery of gold in 1860.

Town about 50 km north east of Cootamundra and about 60 km south west of Cowra. Provisional boundaries in Harden Council not yet assigned. Boundaries within Shire of Young shown on map marked GNB 3698
Origin
The name honours Sir John Young Governor of NSW 1861-7. (Appleton 1992).
