Perennial stream rising at Indi Springl in the Snowy Mountains Range and forming most of the southern boundary between New South Wales & Victoria. It flows in a meandering course generally N W NW SW and south for about 2560 km through Lakes Hume Mulwala & Alexandrina falling into the sea in Encounter Bay about S.S.W. of Adelaide. Its main tributaries are Swampy Plain Tooma Mitta Kiewa Ovens Edward Goulburn Campaspe Laddow Wakool Murrumbidgee & Darling Rivers. It passes Tintaldra Jingellic Burrowye Talmalmo Bungil Wymah Albury Wodonga Howlong Corowa Bundalong Mulwala Yarrowonga.

HUME RIVER See Previous/or alternate name. Named after Hume the explorer by Hovell his companion who claimed Hume was the first to sight it on Nov 16th 1824 then named Murray by Captain Charles Sturt in 1829 after Sir George Murray Sec. for the Colonies. Native name noted in 1836 - Millewa P. 14-15. *
