Bootawa Dam (DAM), NSW Details
Description
A dam on an unnamed stream which flows generally northwards to its confluence with the Manning River about 1km below Abbotts Falls. The dam is situated about 8.2km west south west of Taree Post Office and 1.3km north west of Tinonee Trigonometrical Station. It is a zoned earthfill embankment up to 30m high having a gross storage capacity of 2275ML and an effective capacity of 2190ML. It was constructed in 1968 as part of the Manning District Scheme to improve and increase town water supply to the Manning Valley district. It also supplies bulk water to the Forster area.
Origin
The dam and impounded waters lie partly within the Parishes of Bootawa and Tinonee. The dam is thought to take the name of the Parish of Bootawa. NorthPower correspondence 1996.
