Origin
Eveleigh was the name Lieutenant William Holden gave to his estate located at the site in the early days of colonial settlement in honour of his birthplace in England. The name also maintains the link with the Eveleigh Railway yards that occupied the bulk of the site. (See letter of 20.5.97 on file GNB3717).
