Named by Sir Thomas Mitchell in July 1835 for what we know today as Lake Menindee. Laidley was the Deputy Commissary General of NSW at the time.

A lake about 2 km N of Emu Lake and about 4 km NW of Menindee

James Laidley was born in March 1786 in Perthshire Scotland and died in August 1835 (Australian Dictionary of Biography) He is remembered by a Memorial in St James Church Sydney.
