Sighted by Captain Cook on 7 May 1770. (Reed 1969).

Description

An estuary which is entered between Barrenjoey Head and Box Head. Within it lies Pittwater Hawkesbury River and Brisbane Waters.

Origin

Named by Capt. Cook because of the broken land nature of the bay. (Information from Dee Why to Barrenjoey and Pittwater - Charles Swancott) P2. RAHS Journal Vol 12 Pt1) P7.
