History
Numinbah is one of the oldest names on the Tweed. (Richmond Tweed Regional Library. 1984).
Description
A locality on the NSW/Qld border including the catchments of Couchy Pat Smiths and Numinbah Creeks. It is about 15 km north west of Murwillumbah. Boundaries within the Tweed Council area shown on map GNB. 3810. A bounded address locality. Also assigned as a rural place.
Meaning
From the Bandjalung-Yugambeh dialect chain word `nummin meaning holding tight. It was believed that the narrow valley held the mountains tightly together. Source: J.A. Gresty. The Numinbah Valley p62. 1947.
