History
The Milkers Flat portions were advertised for sale by Land Grant under the name Milkers Flat in 1855 (Gov. Gazette 2.10.1855) and were purchased by Hugh and Janet Smith. (See leaflet in file GNB3763).
Description
A locality about 24 km north west of Bathurst and about 3 km south of Freemantle.
Origin
Milkers Flat was named by Janet Smith (nee Miller) who lived at Watton from 1847. Janet ran a dairy on the flat near the present Hillside homestead and she called the area her milkers flat which is shown on the earliest maps. (Lands Department maps 1859 map of County of Roxborough).
