Description
A locality about 4 km SE by E of Menangle Park and about 4.5 km SW of Bradbury. Boundary amendment 23 July 1999. Boundaries within the Campbelltown Council area shown on map GNB4174.
Origin
The name is taken from the property name Mt Gilead which is claimed to be the site where the dairying industry of Campbelltown started. A grant made to Reuben Uther on August 25 1812 was the first grant of land to later become the Mt Gilead estate.(Suggested Names for Suburbs Neighbourhoods Localities; Campbelltown City Council 1973)
