Charles Robert Wynn-Carrington first Marquis of Lincolnshire and the first Earl Carrington (1843-1928) was Governor of NSW 1885-90. (Reed 1969).

A suburb situated between Throsby Creek and Port Hunter about 2 km NW by N of Newcastle. Boundaries within the Newcastle Council area shown on map GNB3538.

Origin

The coal shipment suburb near the entrance to the Hunter River was named after Baron Carrington Governor of N.S.W. (1885-1890) (Newspaper Article by W.B. McDonald)
