center align vertical 2 items in a container flex

i had this issue and i was pretty sure that flex center could fix it but it was causing the two items in the div to sit next to each other, which was annoying as it was a header and content, but i still wanted them to be vertically aligned.

It seems this can be fixed with flex-direction.

So we can see the default behaviour here, we are getting the vertical alignment we want but the items are next to each other which is what we dont want.

So this can be fixed with flex-direction: column;

You can see this in item 2. It even treats the <br> as a block/column element, so we can also remove that.

Here is the result.

HTML

<h2>Item 1 - Normal Flex Center</h2>
<p>This item shows normal flex center, and how it aligns the strong and the p next to each other. </p>
<div class='wrap-1'>
  <div class='item-1'>

    <p>Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Duis rutrum sapien non ornare sagittis. Fusce quis dignissim felis. Pellentesque iaculis nisl et est ultricies, id mollis lorem volutpat. Praesent nec nunc vel quam facilisis scelerisque a ut orci. Sed sed enim vestibulum ex commodo venenatis vitae in mi. In eu velit sed nunc euismod tempor ac at odio. Mauris sit amet mi ac turpis rutrum congue sit amet id nunc.</p>
  </div>
</div>

<h2>Item 2 - flex-direction: column</h2>
<p>Adding the flex-direction: column to item-2 you can see its now vertically aligned in the middle but no longer puts the elements next to each other. </p>
<div class='wrap-2'>
  <div class='item-2'>
    <strong>Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet</strong>
    <p>Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Duis rutrum sapien non ornare sagittis. Fusce quis dignissim felis. Pellentesque iaculis nisl et est ultricies, id mollis lorem volutpat. Praesent nec nunc vel quam facilisis scelerisque a ut orci. Sed sed enim vestibulum ex commodo venenatis vitae in mi. In eu velit sed nunc euismod tempor ac at odio. Mauris sit amet mi ac turpis rutrum congue sit amet id nunc.</p>
  </div>
</div>

<h2>Item 2 - flex-direction: column with left aligned text</h2>
<p>You probably dont always want to have center aligned texy but still want the vertical spacing / padding so here it is with left aligned text rather than centered text. </p>
<div class='wrap-3'>
  <div class='item-3'>
