Origin

Allan Cunningham (13.07.1791 - 27.06.1839) was a famous early botanist and explorer. He was appointed as a collector of plants and arrived in Sydney in 1814. He rented a cottage in Parramatta and conducted botanical work there and in the Blue Mountains. In 1837 he became Colonial Botanist. (Australian Dictionary of Biography Vol 1)
