The beginning of the village of Mendooran dates back to 1850 as revealed from the Surveyor General T.L. Mitchell.

Mundowie is Aboriginal for footprint (Hobbles Chains and Greenhide Dudley Mills Self Published 1976)
Origin
Derived from Mundooran which was supposed to have originated from the Aboriginal King Mundoo who on the sight of the first white settler ran away hence Mundoo ran (Around the Black Stump R Cameron Published 1993 Page 186)
