Corruption of native name Bullinah(RAHS;Vol 44; Pt 3;p 146). Also: derived from Gidhabal balun for river creek. (M.Sharpe;1992). A Banjalang Aboriginal term from bullina. (Appleton 1992) Balluna Aboriginal for where the river enters the sea. (Antropolo- gical Society of Australasia).
