Description
A city at the junction of North Arm Richmond River and Wilsons Creek about 23 km E by N of Casino. A thriving industrial and commercial metropolis and centre of a rich rural area. Boundaries within the Lismore Council area shown on map GNB3628.
Origin
Station taken up by William Wilson in 1844-5.Named after Lismore in Scotland. Aboriginal Bundjalung name for Lismore was Tuckurimba. North Lismore was Banyam meaning sleeping lizard; South Lismore was Pwooyan and Bowyum for the Lismore district both having same meaning as Banyam. (Richmond Tweed Reg. Lib. & Rich.
