History
Adelong was the centre of an immensely rich gold field in the 1850s and 1860s. Many remains of the area are to be found the most notable being at Adelong Falls.
Description
A town located about 15 km W of Tumut and about 11 km WNW of Gilmore. Enclosed on both sides by the winding Adelong Creek.
Meaning
Said to be derived from the Aboriginal meaning along the way. However according to Reed (1967) the meaning is a plain with a creek running through. Also: plain with a river. (McCarthy; 1963).
