History
Also: Formerly Bundjalung Aboriginal land but name is definetly not Aboriginal in origin. It was invented by Europeans. (Appleton; 1992).
Description
A village on the Tweed River. Also assigned as an address locality.
Meaning
For: a little river or estuary or new settlement or to have some association with taro a large swamp lily whose yam-like roots were eaten when roasted. Taro introduced by Kanaka labourers and name preceeds this. (Richmond Tweed Regional Library. 1984).
Origin
Aboriginal. Terranora was never Taranora. Terranora was the anglicised name for the hill-lands spared for sugar blocks. (Richmond Tweed Regional Library. 1984). Also: small river. (McCarthy. 1963). Also: (coastal) small estuary. (M.Sharpe).
