Macintyre River (RIVER), NSW Details
History
Originally named the Dumaresq River by Allan Cunningham. The name Macintyre was given by Cunningham to what is now known as the Dumaresq River. Peter Macintyre was the overseer at Segenhoe Station.-Atchison
Description
A perennial stream forming portion of the headwaters of the Darling River and rising about 15 km west of Glencoe. It flows generally NW and west for about 380 km to its confluence with Weir River to form the Barwon River. Inverell Wallangra Yetman & Boggabilla are along its course.
Origin
The gazette notice assigning this name was published in capital letter so that the upperlower case spelling is not apparent. However all correspondence in GNB 634( filed in main features file ) uses the spelling Macintyre.
