Description
A town situated on the southern side of the Clyde River where that river enters Batemans Bay. A well known fishing and holiday resort.
Origin
The bay originally appeared on Captain Cooks chart as Bateman Bay being discovered on 21 April 1770 and named after Nathaniel Bateman Captain of the Northumberland on which Cook had sailed as Master. (Place Names of NSW Reed 1969).
