Description
An administrative area extending from Tamworth in the South to Barraba in the North and containing the towns of Somerton Attunga and Manilla.
Origin
Probably named after Governor Sir Ralph Darling (1775-1858) who arrived in Hobart in December 1825 proclaimed the separation of Tasmania appointed a lieutenant-governor and proceeded to Sydney. He was recalled in March 1831. His period of office was very stormy as he faced a changing political and social situation in the Colony.
