Originally named Blackheath. The name of the Post Office changed to Hoskins Town in 1870 after the receipt of a petition from local residents. See letter on map file for futher details.

A Rural Place about 17.5 km south of Bungendore.
Origin
Probably derived from the name of John Hosking the first mayor of Sydney who purchased portions 145-149 in the Parish of Molonglo in 1836. HOSKINSTOWN - Village which developed in the 1870s from free selection taken up by John Hosking (1835) Known as Blackheath until 1871 and Hoskingtown until 1896. First school established 1869.
