Description
The western end of the Black-Allan Line being the straight line boundary of the New South Wales-Victoria State border.
Origin
Named after surveyor/explorer Thomas Scott Townsend who was instructed by the then Surveyor General Sir Thomas Livingstone Mitchell to determine the source of the Murray River nearest to Cape Howe in 1845 so as to form a boundary between Port Phillip and the Middle Districts. (source: see history)
