Coonamble (LOCALITY), NSW Details
Description
A town about 50 km E of Quambone and 30 km E by N of Narraway State Forest. It is on the Castlereagh Hwy on the Western Plains 518 km NW of Sydney. Boundaries within the Coonamble Council area shown on map GNB3755.
Meaning
Also: derived from Kamilaroi gunambil for full of shit. A meaning given previously bullock camp was presumably a bowdlerisation but could also indicate that the name was given after European settlers and livestock arrived. (Appleton; 1992).
