Description
Town on the New England Tableland at the junction of the New England Bruxner and Mt. Lindesay Highways. It is on the Main Northern Railway line about 80 km NNE of Glen Innes. Tenterfield Creek a tributary of the Dumaresq River passes through the centre of the town.
Origin
Named bt Stuart Alexander Donaldson Premier of NSW June-August 1856 and the first Premier in the period of responsible government. From a letter written in 1914 by Archbishop G.F. Donaldson of Brisbane that Donaldson named his station in New England Tenterfield after the name of his two maiden aunts from haddington Scotland. (Atchison 76)
