Description
A village about 6.5 km W by S of the village of Stony Chute and 8 km E by N of Kyogle.
Origin
Aboriginal. From: Campbell-wonga or Campbell-mount said to be Aboriginal names for first white settlers to area. Also: Cawongala from gahwangal for temporary swamp having a consonent l ending signifying present location. (Richmond Tweed Regional Library & Richmond River Historical Society. 1983).
