History
Was once known as the Big Lagoon.
Description
Freshwater Lagoon north of the village of Lennox Head.
Origin
Named after James Ainsworth. In 1847 Captain Thomas Ainsworth and his family arrived on his ship the Matilda Ann to settle on the North Head of Ballina. James Ainsworth his son was a well known dealer in cedar in the Richmond River region. (Rich. Twd. Reg. Lib. & R. Hist. Soc. 1983).
