Coleambally (LOCALITY), NSW Details
History
One of the newest towns in NSW it came into beiing offically in 1968 with the establishment of the 95000ha irrigation area from which it takes its name (Discover Australia 1990).
Description
A town about 23 km NE by E of Black Ridge and about 10 km SW of Boona State Forest. Percieved boundaries in the Jerilderie Council not yet assigned. Boundaries within the Murrumbidgee Council area shown on map GNB3788.
Meaning
Aboriginal. Probably meaning a swift in flight. The spine-tailed swift is one of the most powerful fliers known wheeling and sweeping at high speed in search of flying insects. (Reed 1969).
