History
The first penetration of the area was when a road was put through to South Head during Macquaries governorship (1810-21). (Book of Sydney Suburbs 1988).
Description
An urban locality situated at the junction of Victoria Street Darlinghurst Road and William Street where the suburbs of Potts Point Darlinghurst and Woolloomooloo meet.
Origin
The name Queens Cross became attached to the area in the 1860s in honour of Queen Victorias Diamond Jubilee but because it was often confused with Queens Square at the top end of King Street in the city the name was changed to Kings Cross in 1905.
