Burns (TRIG. STATION), NSW Details
History
Burns TS was established by Joseph Brooks a surveyor employed by the Dept of Lands in July 1890. It consisted of a metal trig plug set in concrete surmounted by a cairn of stones. Now an observing pillar.
Description
A Trig station near the locality of Cockburn (SA) close to the NSW/SA border. It is located about 600m north of where the Barrier Highway crosses the border from NSW into SA 19 km NW of Felspar Trig Station and 16 km WSW of Twenty Mile Trig Station. TS7305
Origin
Burns Trig Station is named after the town of Burns which was laid out on the NSW side of the border and immediately to the south of this trig station. Cockburn was a town laid out immediately to the west in South Australia.
