History

Formerly Ngiyambaa Aboriginal land. (Appleton; 1992). Property name establishrd in 1845 by William Lawson Jnr. Gazetted June 30 1861. (Across the Black Soil Plains; R.M.Brennan; p.31-43).

Description

A town about 17 km NE by N of Nevertire and about 5 km NE by E of Warren Airport. Boundaries within Warren Council area shown on map GNB3818.

Meaning

Possibly derived from one of two Ngiyambaa terms: waran for root or walan for hard; also said to have been bestowed on a property from which name was taken with the British meaning ;enclosed place where animals are kept. (Appleton; 1992).
