Benkennie was the original name of the Camden Estate of John Macarthur It is said to be either the name of a local aboriginal tribe or an aboriginal word for dry land. Alternatively Bekennie or Belgenny was said to have been the name of a pond on the original grant. Also see under Benhennie in Reed 1967.
